Creating Author Profiles

This guide covers how to create and update online author profiles to represent your scholarly activity.

What is SciENcv?

The Science Experts Network Curriculum Vitae (SciENcv) is an online tool that helps researchers apply for NIH and NSF grants. It's a brief CV covering the work, research, and awards that are most related to the funding you are applying for now.

SciENcv is:

  • Required if you are applying for NIH or NSF funding
  • Able to integrate with ORCID accounts for easy updating
  • Is created by you and can be customized to the funding or project you're currently working on

You need a National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) account to set up this online biosketch of your accomplishments.

The video below provides an overview of setting up this electronic CV.

Use ORCiD to Populate Your SciENcv

If you have an ORCiD author profile, you can link it to your NCBI profile and use it to populate your SciENcv. To link your accounts:

  1. Sign into your NCBI account and visit Account Settings.
  2. Scroll down to Linked Accounts and click Add account.
  3. Choose ORCiD from the drop down list.
  4. Sign into your ORCiD account when prompted.

Once the accounts are linked, you can create your CV with this process:

  1. Click on the Create a New Document button.
  2. Name your SciENcv.
  3. Choose data source.
  4. Select external source.
  5. Choose ORCiD from the drop down menu.
  6. Choose the most relevant publications (called products) from those associated with your ORCiD account.

Once you have added this information automatically, make any corrections or fill in any missing information manually.
