KFL encourages the use of zines in classrooms! The Teaching with Zines kit was developed to provide supplemental material for instructors to learn more about self-publishing and to provide samples on how to incorporate zines into assignments appropriate for the collegiate setting. Instructors have also reached out to have the library collect specific, zine-y publications for classes - Dance History(s) and Martha's Quarterly - as well as adding zines to course reserves. Please use the course reserves request form to submit titles for consideration. KFL does its best to fulfill all faculty / staff requests but might be limited by the library's annual collection budget and CU payment procedures.
If you are assigning zines as an assignment for your class, we would love to add them to the library's collection. We request 3 copies of each zine, if possible. One copy will go to the circulating collection on the shelf. One copy will go to UCCS' archives. And one will be held as a replacement copy, in case an original is damaged or lost.
The library also has a zine workshop kit which includes 20 scissors, 3 long-arm staplers, copies of Whatcha Mean, What's a Zine and Stolen Sharpie Revolution, paper, stickers, and other creative materials. Please reach out, if you would like any assistance facilitating workshops for your class.
