The Freedom of Information Act provides the public the right to access records from any federal agency. Unless the information falls under one of nine exemptions, federal agencies are required to disclose any information requested under the FOIA. The FOIA also requires agencies to proactively post certain kinds of information, such as frequently requested records, online.
FOIA requests must be submitted directly to the appropriate agency or office.
