COMM 2500: Research methods: Start here to look for articles

Starting Out

When you need to find journal articles, use library databases! The Kraemer Family Library has access to over 100 different databases and each one offers different features and searches different journals. This guide recommends a few databases, but you may browse them all at Library Databases. Articles on the topic you are researching for this class can be found in all of the databases listed on this page, but the type of resources you find in each database will vary. For example, if you search in Academic Search Premier you will find articles covering a wide spectrum of topics related to cell phones. Some may be focused on the psychology of using cell phones while others may be technical articles about the engineering of cell phones. If you search in Business Source Premier you may find articles about coupons on cell phones or advertising on cell phones. If you are interested in people's behavior in using cell phones then you might want to use PsycInfo. Communication and Mass Media Complete may have articles about how different media use cell phones or how cell phones play into interpersonal relationships.

You have many choices about where to look for your information, and it won't be difficult to find material.

Suggested databases

Look at the names of the databases for hints about what subject focus they have. The first two are very general and you can use them for any topic.
