Is our copy of a book checked out? Or we don't have want you are looking for?

Use Prospector to search the catalogs of other libraries in Colorado, including public libraries! If an item you want is available, place a request and it will be delivered to Kraemer Family Library. You'll get an email when the item arrives.

This is a great way to get access to more fiction and pleasure reading books that we may not have in our catalog.Put in a request and in a couple of days you will have a new book to enjoy. You can use this to get books that we don't have or books that are checked out from our library.

Catalog Search Options

If you know the title of a book that you are looking for, you can do a Title search in the catalog to see if we have the book in our collection. Simple change Keyword to Title in the drop down menu by the search box. You can now type in the Title of the book and click search.

Catalog Title Search

This search will give you a results list that looks like this:

Catalog Results List

If the book you want is checked out, like this one is, or if we do not have it in our library, click "Search Prospector" to run the same search in the Prospector catalog to see if other libraries have the book available. If they do, click "Request This Item", fill out your information, and your book will be on its way here.

Prospector Request Item location

If you know the name of the author that you are looking for, but not necessarily the title of the book or you just want to browse the author's works, do a search by Author. To do this, use the drop down menu by the search box to change Keyword to Author. Then enter the author you are looking for into the search box with their last name first, LastName, FirstName.

For example, to find books by the author Stephen King you would enter his name as King, Stephen into the search box.

An author search will give you a list of Author's names, not book titles. To see the titles by an author click the appropriate name for the author that you are looking for. If the author that you are looking for does not appear on the list, use the "Search Prospector" option to search other libraries.

Finding fiction in an academic library is not quite as easy as in a public library or bookstore, but it can still be done! To find fiction in the library catalog you will need to do a Subject search for the type of fiction or genre you want to read. The subjects for novels and short stories usually include the term "Fiction"  in their subject. Other popular genres of fiction also have their own subject headings that you can use to do a Subject search, including:

"Science fiction"

"Mystery fiction"

"Short stories"

"Detective and mystery stories"

"Romance fiction"

"Fantasy fiction"

"Paranormal fiction"

"Psychological fiction"

"Historical fiction"

"comic books, strips, etc"

If you are more interested in searching for books by theme, topic, location, or time period, instead of genre, do a Subject search for "fiction" AND a Keyword search for the topic you are interested in.

This type of search could look like the following: (Subject) "fiction" AND (Keywords) Scotland.

**If you find that you are getting a lot of results that talk about literature instead of novels/stories, try adding NOT "criticism" to the end of your search string.**
